Fender Bender Doesn't
Have to Put Emotions in the Shop
Precarious times play havoc with our emotions, but we don't HAVE to live at the mercy of our circumstances. We can experience joy, peace and hope anyway! Here's one way to get started...
The meaning we assign to events has WAY more impact on our emotions than the event itself. For instance, an hour ago I was driving on icy roads, started to slide and smashed the front end of my 4Runner. A few years ago I would have assigned
this
meaning to the accident: "Awful things ALWAYS happen to me! LIfe is SO unpredictable and I'm ALWAYS at the mercy of unwanted surprises!" Instead, this morning I said to myself, "Accidents happen, but I am not a victim. I'm capable and in charge and I will handle this little glitch with finesse."
Same accident, two different responses, two very different results in my emotions. What's going on in YOUR life? Have you attached meanings that are stealing your hope, peace and joy?
